Biostimulators do not fill: they make your skin produce new collagen. The result is an improvement in the firmness and thickness of the skin that appears over months and lasts longer than a filler.

That sentence contains the three things worth understanding before deciding, and all three get misread.

It is not the same as a filler

The difference from hyaluronic acid is fundamental. A filler occupies a space and is visible the same day; a biostimulator is a particle the body recognises and around which it manufactures collagen over weeks.

That is why the effect takes two to three months to become evident, and also why it lasts considerably longer: between twelve and twenty-four months.

There are two practical consequences. First: if you leave the session and see nothing, nothing has failed. Second: it is no use for a wedding in three weeks. If what you need is a visible change in the short term, this is not for you.

What is almost never mentioned

There is a practical consequence that rarely comes up in a sales conversation: biostimulators cannot be dissolved.

Hyaluronic acid has an antidote, hyaluronidase, which allows a result you dislike to be reversed or a complication to be treated. Here there is no such recourse.

Without an antidote, caution is not a style: it is the only protection there is. The dose is always kept on the low side and adjusted over successive sessions.

Anyone proposing to solve everything in one generous session is taking on your behalf a risk they cannot undo.

What it does well and what it does not do

It does well: improving the quality, firmness and thickness of skin that has lost density; treating wide areas such as cheeks, neck, décolletage, arms or abdomen; accompanying other procedures.

It does not: lift what has fallen through gravity — that is surgery — remove expression lines, replace lost volume immediately, or correct marked laxity. Offering it as an alternative to a facelift is offering something else.

The practical side

The session takes thirty to forty-five minutes, under topical anaesthesia and with no downtime. There may be redness, swelling and some bruising for a few days. The effect builds over time and several spaced sessions are usually needed.

Two things to insist on: that the product has current regulatory approval and that a doctor administers it. This is injected into specific planes, and a superficial application or one in the wrong place can leave visible nodules which, being impossible to dissolve, have to be treated another way and over months.

What is not promised

No specific result is promised and no permanent effect: the response depends on your own capacity to produce collagen, which varies with age, genetics and smoking. Two people given the same dose can get different results, and that is not a failure of the product.
